Grand Final marks the third Super Rugby decider between the Crusaders and Chiefs — a clash that’s built on history, momentum, and a whole lot of tactical muscle.

So if you're the one in the friend group quoting tackle efficiency and turnover-to-try ratios… this is the article for you.

The Crusaders and Chiefs will meet in the final of a men’s Super Rugby competition for the third time (2021, 2023) with the Crusaders winning each of the two previous meetings, including a 25-20 win in the 2023 Super Rugby Pacific final.

The Chiefs have won five of their last seven Super Rugby Pacific games against the Crusaders including their last two in a row; the only time they’ve won more consecutive games against the Crusaders was a four-game streak from Round 3, 2015 to Round 15, 2016.

The Chiefs have won three of their last five Super Rugby Pacific games against the Crusaders at Apollo Projects Stadium including a 35-19 win when they met there earlier this season; though, they’ve not won back-to-back games against them at the venue since 2016.

The Crusaders have won 13 Super Rugby finals (including regional competitions) which is eight more than any other team, while the Chiefs have won the final on only two of their six attempts; in fact, the Chiefs have lost the last two Super Rugby Pacific finals and will be looking to avoid becoming just the second team in competition history to lose three straight finals (Lions, 2016-2018).

The Crusaders have won six of their last seven Super Rugby Pacific games against New Zealand opposition, with their only loss in that frame a 19-35 defeat to the Chiefs, while the Chiefs have lost two of their last four and will be looking to avoid back-to-back losses in New Zealand derbies for the first time this season.

The Crusaders have scored 13 tries from possession begun with a turnover this Super Rugby Pacific season, the most of any team in the competition; though, the Chiefs haven’t made any turnovers leading to an opposition try on the same play in any of their last five games in the competition.

The Chiefs have scored three tries per game through the middle channel of the field this Super Rugby Pacific season, one per game more than any other team in the competition, while only the Blues (1.2) have conceded fewer tries through the middle channel per game than the Chiefs (1.25).

Sevu Reece (Crusaders) has made 26 offloads this Super Rugby Pacific season, the most of any player in the competition and eight more than second-ranked Timoci Tavatavanawai (18); however, the Chiefs (10.3) have allowed the third-fewest offloads of any team this season while the Crusaders (14.4) have allowed the most.

Jamie Hannah (Crusaders) has completed 23.2 tackles per 80 minutes in the 2025 Super Rugby Pacific season, the most of any player to have played at least 80 minutes this season, while teammates George Bell (23.2), Quinten Strange (22.3), and Tom Christie (21.3) are ranked third, fourth, and fifth respectively.

Damian McKenzie (Chiefs) has scored 207 points from 13 games in the 2025 Super Rugby Pacific season, the first player to score 200 points in a single campaign since Bernard Foley (223) and Robert du Preez (215) both did so in 2018; furthermore, he’s scored 139 points across his last 10 games against the Crusaders including a 20-points haul in his most recent game against them (1 try, 3 conversions, 3 penalty goals).
