A contemporary from school and age-group representative sides of celebrated All Black winger Joe Rokocoko, Tony Koonwaiyou contributed usefully to the Crusaders’ cause during three seasons of limited opportunities. With the franchise not lacking in strike options in his position, the fleet footed Koonwaiyou had to bide his time for playing opportunities, largely being used as an impact player off the bench. Koonwaiyou was first capped byAuckland in 2003 and played 17 matches for the province over three seasons before figuring as a loan player for Northland in the inaugural Air New Zealand Cup in 2006.
