Ben Hurst
« Back

Not many players feature in a semi-final and then final for their first two appearances for a side, but Ben Hurst managed it and handled the situation with aplomb when the Crusaders won the 2000 Super 12. So well did the son of the 1972-74 All Black midfield back Ian Hurst handle the situation that injured All Black Justin Marshall was barely missed, even though the Crusaders’ final opponents that year featured the game’s most experienced halfback, George Gregan, within their ranks. A national Under-21 representative in 1999, Hurst went on to play 46 games for Canterbury between 1999 and 2004, captaining the side during the 2003 NPC campaign. He now runs two successful childcare centres in Auckland.
